I was surfing around on the TeamXBox website this morning and found an interesting article on the fall update that Microsoft will be pushing out to the XBox 360 Dashboard.  Apparently, the next update that will be coming will pave the road for all types of “in-demand” usage through the XBox.

The first phase that Microsoft will be rolling out will allow XBox Live users to download the original XBox games and directly onto their XBox.  And yes, these will include all of the favorites, even the original Halo.

While the initial phase will only be including the “on-demand” download of games, you can extrapolate where this technology is heading.  Microsoft has a device connected to millions of homes with high speed data connections.  This really puts Microsoft in a league of their own.

Currently only cable operators are able to offer “in-demand” type video services.  But it surely appears that Microsoft is now moving in that direction.

With this technology and the bandwidth that they have to all their devices this could really position Microsoft as a major player in a new media environment.
