There was an article on Reddit that was titled “Why linking to downloads before the product ships hurts people” that pointed to here which stated that linking to an ftp address for software that hadn’t been released yet is harmful to the public.

My questions is, why are you making the ftp available to the public before hand? If anyone knows that anything published to the web without a password will be made public, it should be them. Instead, if they need to absolutely make an ftp folder for themselves to upload, shouldn’t they of thought of enabling a password on the directory? A few simple lines of code in the .htaccess file would of taken care of it. Hell, even cpanel will automate that with a few point and click actions.

It’s common sense. People will wander in to the unknown if that unknown is not blocked.. So stop crying Firefox devs, it was your own doing.
