Well it looks like the ridiculous thinking in the US has now spread overseas. Just what we need! Apparently some firefighters in the UK have been told that they are not to climb ladders. No, I am not joking. The reason, well this should be obvious, ladders are dangerous! Yes, you heard correctly.

This has all come about in Ampthill where the fire crews typically helped out the community following their annual Gala Day celebration by bravely climbing ladders and removing the bunting (that’s basically a flag for those readers from the USA) that was put up during the event.

Well now it has been a full four months and the bunting is still in place, no one has removed it and the citizens are now starting to complain. Unfortunately for them there are safety and health rules which the firefighters must now abide by, and no ladder climbing is one of them.

I also found it amusing that in 2006 another fire department in Devon

In August 2006, staff at Devon fire brigade were told to use the stairs instead of sliding down their poles - in case they hurt themselves.

Health and safety officials decided the poles were a hazard despite them being used to shave off vital seconds for 130 years.

What is this world coming to? What are we doing? I mean, first kids can’t draw stick figures in chalk on the sidewalk and now firefighters can’t climb ladders or slide down poles? I am scared!
