So yesterday the iphone was announced by apple at CES. Question is, will the iPhone be the new iPod? My guess is no. Here’s a few reason why the iPhone wont be as popular as the iPod.

1. When the iPod came in to the scene, not many mp3 players were in the market. The iPod was a great product in a market without many alternatives. While the iPod didn’t have many competitors, the iPhone does.
2. The suggested price for this gadget is estimated to be $500 to $600 per unit. $600 for a phone?
3. First impression are that its a phone/ipod/computer/dvd player. Thats all great in all, but I already have all of that. I want something new. Something fresh. Just like iPod was something new. Not that same old crap stuffed in to one gizmo.
4. Its a touch screen! Is this good or bad? Its bad, trust me! Watching that movie with all the finger print goodness!
5. How much can this battery last for actually making phone calls? My guess, its not much. Now, you can use it while its being plugged in, but if you do that, you basically have a non portable computer with a dvd drive and skype.

1I see where you are coming from. But remember, anything that apple rolls out, people buy. Its a trend.
Doesn’t matter if apple sells you a brick, if that brick has that shiny apple logo carved in there, consumers will buy.
