These pictures were sent to me from a firefighter friend that I have. I have not been able to find out what the exact source of them is yet. From the perspective that many are taken from, I am guessing that these are photos that the fire departments have taken fighting the fires that are raging in Southern California.
I lived in Southern California between LA and San Diego for years. We learned to expect the occasional wildfire and mudslides, but these pictures are just amazing. I can not believe the devastation that is portrayed in these pictures.
It also gives me a whole new perspective on what fire fighters do. This is unbelievable to me. I have never had a full appreciation of the devastation a fire can actually have. I have never really seen pictures or video of an out of control fire from this vantage point. Usually all you see on the news is a far away helicopter shot or the aftermath.
Hopefully these pictures will raise some awareness as to what is going on in Southern California and also give some perspective as to what the men and women fighting these fires are going through.
Please keep a good thought for the many people that are affected by these fires. Many families have lost everything in these fires. Not only their homes, but their livelihood and their memories.

1The second picture, with the Elk standing in the middle of the river, was take in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana in 2000.

the photos are very compelling - i wanted to see if we could get the ok to use some of these photos when talking to communities trying to get them to prepare their homes so they do not face this type of devastation themselves and so we can better protect our brave firemen.
