Now seriously! What is this country coming to? For some reason when I was growing up I have memories of adults being “nice” people and taking an interest in what the kids in the neighborhood were doing. They also seemed very supportive and stayed in tune with what was going on. I was able to run around, ride my bike and play anywhere I liked without my parents worrying about who was going to do what to me and that I might do “kid things”, but would never get into any real trouble.
Now, it seems just the opposite. I watch what goes on my neighborhood and it is usually adults “yelling” at the kids. Telling them stop playing in their yards, get off their property, etc. What is happening to our communities? Perhaps kids are really different these days, maybe it is the adults that don’t teach their kids, maybe it is the War on Terror… I don’t know, but it sure seems sad to me.
So, here is the reason for this rant. I just read a news story about a six year old girl who was sent a threatening by the Department of Sanitation
“PLEASE REMOVE THE GRAFFITI FROM YOUR PROPERTY,” the Sanitation Department warning letter read. “FAILURE TO COMPLY … MAY RESULT IN ENFORCEMENT ACTION AGAINST YOU.”
and for what? Your not going to believe this. Drawing a stick figure in CHALK on the sidewalk. I mean, I remember kids doing that all the time. It’s not like she drew anything offensive, unless you have something against stick figures. No I am not kidding. And she even faces a $300 fine for this, which I am sure will be quickly dropped since this story has now made the press (now it’s just a complete waste of time and public resources, not to mention an embarrassment).
Here is the new face of crime in our country. Beware of the “Chalk-wielding, six-year-old girl”! She might just draw a stick figure on the sidewalk!
What is this country coming to! Don’t our bureaucrats have anything better to do?

2What a stupid rant. I’m sorry, but having a cute little girl doesn’t make her crime any less detestable. People often don’t get the whole picture. That is, chalk on the sidewalk can be detrimental to the environment. Nobody cares if you’re drawing. Everyone cares if you’re polluting.

6who in their right minds would make a 6 year old girl pay 300 dollar’s for drawing on the sidewalk it is just chalk i mean after a few rain showers it will come off and it will be like it was naver there and that is wrong for somebody to make a 6 year old girl to pay 300 dollars just for drawing a stick figure on the sidewalk now that is just plain wrong to make her do that that is sick and wrong do not ever make a 6 year old girl pay 300 dollar’s just for drawing on the sidewalk who care’s it is not like she is hurting anything or anyone i think some people are just plain mean. to this inocent little girl.

8In my country we shoot little kids who deface property. That crime must be punished to the full extent. Next thing you know she will be on the street selling drugs or a prostitute looking for drugs. I think this little girl is getting off easy with only a three hundred dollar fine. Back in my day if you so much as brandished a tool of defacement you would have your hands cut off from the elbow!
I say we should tie her to a stake a burn her at her school in front of all the other kids, so they know that crimes like these demand punishment!

9She really should have taken her shoes off in the first photo, they are going to get scraped up kneeling on the sidewalk. I agree it is dumb issuing a fine for writing with CHALK on a sidewalk. I am sure if she refuses to pay, they can’t make her at her age.

11mineral calcite (in chalk) is naturally occuring, not pollution. jesus people really want to focus on this instead of other real issues? let the child draw. what’s wrong with these folks?
