Please take a careful look at the image below. What do you see? A guy dressed in a Darth Vader costume refilling a bottle by filtering it with a Brita water filter. Ok, hes there, refilling a container full of seawater.
Question is, why? What can that guy possibly be doing that he needs water so bad, he needs to get it from the sea? Did he have that filter with him? Why is he wearing a Darth Vader costume? What is going on here?

6It’s performance art by Daniel Bozhkov. “Darth Vader tries to clean the Black Sea with Brita Filter”
see here.
I’ve met him, he’s an OK guy. He’s been on Larry King.

8I met the guy who created this image, he visited one of my classes in college. This is a still shot from a 20-second clip that was on TV in Europe sometime in the ’90s. Darth Vader is filtering the Black Sea with a Brita filter. He scoops up seawater, lets it filter a few seconds, pours it in the bottle and then empties the bottle back into the sea. The futility is the point: the black sea is one of the most polluted bodies of water on earth, apparently.

9yeah the sea is polluted, polluted by minneral deposits that can’t be changed no matter how we try. saving the earth is for quitters. lets not save the earth. let’s bone the earth straight up the hershey highway when we said we just liked doing it from behind. fuck the earth. it’s dead and gone already. hippy enviromentalists are prolonging the inevitable. the earth will die, the earth will be reborn. the thing recycles it’s self, for christs’ sake. i think this film should really be showing us that no matter how hard we try, we can not gradually integrate saltwater fish into a freshwater life. it all boils down to politics. we are a nation, nay, a world of so many different and differing views. for us to try to come together, to collaberate in a “world view” such as with the UN or the league of nations would be as natural as disrupting, and destroying the sea, which i might add covers eighty percent of the earth. we need to let people be. let them do their own thing. once the restraints are in place, the convict will try anything to escape, including loss of body parts. we all know what “coyote ugly” pertains to. lets not try to live peacefully. it’ll never come to fruition. lets live tollerantly. do our own things, have our own minds, think in a state of free will, not socially enforced mental abstanance. we should beable to stand up and say that g.w. bush is wrong. that our laws are wrong. that anything is wrong without feeling the hard, unjust, swift arm of the law sweeping our feet out from under us. lets tell them we’ve had enough! lets tell them it’s our fucking time!! let’s tell them we’re voting Feld-Shriver in 2008!! gods bless america!!!

11vader represents the dark side (i.e. evil). this picture demonstrates how evil people make insane amounts of money by bottling and privatizing an abundant resource. if you didn’t already know, bottled water is no more beneficial than tap water. check out this link: http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=87558
and in the case i’m completely wrong, it’s simply just a hilarious picture.

12Darth Vader = the evil in our ocean
Brita = filtered water being poured into an unfiltered bottle.
This picture makes a lot of sense, actually.

20Given the water in Central Ohio is horribly chlorinated and has high levels of mineral deposits carried forth from our aquifer, bottled water is actually much better than the local water supply. (If you wash out a pitcher with hot water, for example, and smell it afterwards, it stinks of chlorine like a city pool.) The mineral deposits are bad enough, that clear shower curtains need to be replaced about every month or two because of the build-up.
The city claims–aside from a one-week violation last year for nitrate levels–the water quality meets or exceeds EPA mandates. I think that says less about the “quality” of the water and more about the horribly lax standards from the federal government.
I don’t care what you say: if the water stinks and tastes horrible, compared to tasteless and odorless bottled/Brita water, then the water quality is poor.

25#Ford Solomon said, referring to the water in Central Ohio “I think that says less about the “qualityâ€? of the water and more about the horribly lax standards from the federal government.” What the hell does this have to do with the federal government? If it bothers you so, get off your dead @$$, head down to City Hall or to the County and raise a stink about it. Get others in your community involved to force change. Trust me, I’ve seen it with my own eyes; if the local officials really want to keep their elected offices, they tend to bend over backwards to get things done when the town folk march down to their office demanding change.

26Esrun,
Why would an advertising campaign for a Brita filter include Darth Vader? What does that have anything to do with it?

July 13th, 2007 at 10:06 am
27Somebody or some group of people have contaminated the water with something, and that guy who’s wearing the ‘darth vader costum’ is actually for protection. He took the water to examine it in the lab.
Don’t you know that Government are poisoning our sea and clean waters on purpose?
