About a week ago, my site was dugg by a reader, and the next day brought in over 100,000 visitors. with Over 130,000 pageviews.
StopGeek.com stayed up and running all day. How? Did i optimize my site to death? Is the site static html? Nope. Quite the opposite actually. I have way too many scripts and more images than actually needed. But it survived. I think i have to give all the credit to my host.
I just started hosting with Media Temple about 2 months ago. There were a few mysql issues in the beginning but its all been sorted. Here you can see the sheer amount of visitors digg brought my way.
Visitors

Pageviews

For the most part, getting dugg is great. You get visitors, and if you place ads, you site will probably make enough to pay for itself that month, and maybe a little extras. Now, there are a few reason why you might not want to get dugg, which you can read about here.
update #1: I was emailed by an MT employee and was given a few tips on optimizing StopGeek. He told me that while the site did increase load on the servers, the site did indeed stay up all the way through the traffic surge. Just wanted to say thanks!
NO! This isnt a sponsored post.
And YES! This will be terribly embarrassing if this gets Dugg and my site goes down.

1This is pretty surprising to see because their prices are pretty cheap. I was with them before and had a few problems. Thats why i moved. I might look in to this again however. Thanks for the review.
