Ever since I turned my PS3 into a media server that can play all of my computer media files, I’ve realized what glorious advancements we’ve achieved as a species. It doesn’t involve walking on the moon, splitting the atom, or even inventing Dippin’ Dots: Ice Cream of the Future. No I’m talking about the ability of taking 7 season of The Shield that are sitting on my hard drive and watching them on my television.

The Slingbox takes this technology and jumps a leap further.

Sling Media showcased their new device at the Consumer Electronics Show 2009. You can stream ANY video from your computer and play it on your TV. That includes DVR content from your home, as well as making the content playable on your mobile devices as well. YouTube, Hulu, anything playable, including DRM protected media is accessible to your SlingBox to play. It is also HD enabled.

Worth the $299 price tag? That’s debatable. But it is new tech and for a top dollar price, it’s not too bad when you consider the insane introduction premium prices of just about anything else found at CES.
