I’ve been on the ‘tubes’ for many years, and the stories of scamming on ebay, paypal, email, etc. never seem to end. Then I proceed to ask myself, why are these people still falling for obvious scams? Its just not old ladies who yell and shake their fists at kids who play on their lawn.
These scams are affecting lawyers, doctors, engineers, and even IT professionals. Whether its ignorance, or sheer stupidity, these people deserve to lose every penny they have. If, after 5+ years of constant warnings from TV, the Internet itself and various other sources, you still don’t show restraint when asked to send your CC or SSI# in some random obscure email, then I hope you lose every penny you’ve got.
This scamming business, is big business. So, I’ve just been informed that your bank information is out of date, and we need to verify your information to avoid suspending your account. So please, submit your information, and don’t check your account for 3 - 5 days while we conduct yearly maintenance. Thank you.

1Vic, i think you’ve forgotten what it feels like for someone new to the internet and computers generally, for example, my girlfriend has to use a computer at work and sometimes at home to send emails to friends abroad, she only does it out of necessity because it really hurts her eyes (yes really). So as a result she’s not comfortable and confident, so when she gets any message in her inbox she’s not sure about she just deletes it! i think it’s easy for you to forget what an alien experience computing is for people new to the whole shebang, and as a result come across as rather self righteous and pompous.
