I’ve been a steady and daily reader of johnchow.com’s blog. I have always looked at what hes done with his site and taken ideas that has allowed me to pull through with my project. Although most of what he does is great, there are a few things that have taken me back a little.
The design can use an overhaul. The theme screams out ‘generic’ to me every time i visit the site. This is of course offset by the incredible site navigation layout and ease of use John Chow has incorporated in his blog.
Accepting paid reviews is not my cup of team. I find myself trusting a site that has this just a little less. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with paid reviews, it’s just something I personally don’t like. Now, it’s pretty ironic that I find myself writing a review for his site, all the while complaining about his site accepting money for reviews. Although there is a difference between getting paid, and getting a linkback.
It has always been my impression that johnchow.com is always in it for the little guy. He’s always helping bloggers get better. This is the only thing that matters when it comes to his blog. Hosting bills need to get paid, time and effort must be rewarded. So him having any ad or any type of service revenue is alright by me.
