Penciled in has a post about one of Intel’s ads that seems to have a racist tone. The ad in question is this one.

It’s obviously showing runners at a starting line in a ready position. This obviously is trying to portray ’speed’ in the ad. What better than to portray that than with athlete runners? Penciledin.com also assumes they are ‘African American’ runners, but with the melting pot that is the USA, skin color no longer dictates where you are from.
I’m not trying to defend Intel for their stupidity, but I think this is a case of looking for a wrong where there is none. Was it stupid? Sure. Is it racist? I dont think so. Want to see an obvious case of bad (bordering racist) ad design?

1I agree with you Vic. The ad is a little tasteless but far from racist. The PSP ad on the other hand…

2Yes, the ad is obviously racist. If it wasn’t, this wouldn’t be a news story now would it? The tone is perpetuating the view of white master, black slaves.
All the white “boss” needs is a whip.

3OMG, Run away! Whitey is coming.
Who did this some new Japanese PR Exec? because it seems like an ad some new Asian PR Guru would come up with.

4Apparently the biggest racist here is YO_KID37.
How dare you point your finger straight at Japanese? Or for that matter Asians? Based on what could you come to the conclusion that it must be from these people?
Plain stupidity as we all can see.

5No the racist person is the one who see the add of athletes in multi-coloured outfits in a starter position and automatically thinks master/slave.
Heck I looked at it and said ‘Wow, I think that’s the most coloured folk in a tech ad ever!’
But not surprising, another tech ad 7 guys (or 2 with one repeating) and no women.
Shoulda had a Hasidic Jews in the starters’ position and an Aussie Aboriginal in the central role. No one would be offended, but everyone would be confused.
Introducing the intel enigma what were we thinking? What are you thinking and who asked you anyways, and why does anyone care !?!

6Only racists see racism in that ad. Give me a break.

7The mental suggestion that we are meant to conjure–namely, that black sprinters are necessarily associated with the abilty to rapidly process information, is indeed amusing.

8All the Intel ad is telling me is that white men run slow. So are you saying it is racist against white people?

9Yes, this ad is very racist. Stop and look at the ad, actually LOOK at it, just the picture. Now, what do you see?
I see, not 6 black runners getting ready to run faster than ever, no I see 6 black men bowing to 1 white guy.
Do you see it now?
This is a very racist ad (unintentionally so, but still racist).
