This is for the ill informed consumers out there who dont know jack shit about computers, purchasing them, and so on. BlueHippo.com is a company who promises you a PC where “Everyone is Approved!”. Bullshit.
They require you to pay a hefty $99.00 activation fee. (What the hell is that? Activating what?) Now, customers can take advantage of their low-low price per week on an awsome computer! Just pay $39.99 a week for 52 weeks! So, once i pay the outrageous $99 “activation” fee i can get my pc right? No.
You need to build “credit” with them by making six payments of $39.99. Then your computer is shipped. So, lets do the math, $39.99 x 52 is… $2079.49! Not including the “activation” fee! Wow, thats pretty expensive, surely the PC you are buying is top notch right?
Well, not quite. Here is the specs right from their site via screengrab.

7i wish last summer this site had been around. have any of you gotten to the point where they want more credit history? why is what i wanted to know. no credit check? right wrong. i have called and called i was to have had my computer by end of Nov. well as you know that came and went. and the people you talk to are rude as hell. i even call the office in Baltimore, MD and they are even worse. so i got the BBB in MD and talked to them. they said to go to their web site and file a formal compaint. and i did and hopefully i will get my money back. not only that i have found out from them that they have have over 500 compaints. so if if you started with Bluehippo and you want to go to BBBMD.org and file a complaint. and they will get back with you. this is the biggest rip off i have come across . i wish there was some way to get them off TV. it would be better to do that and keep the poor stiffs like us from loosing our hard earned money.

8also i might add they want to have a revolving charge account with you so they can charge interest which was not in the orginal paper work. now if they are taking 39.99 a week out why would you need a revolving charge acount. these people are lowest of the lowest as far as i am concerned.

What am I to do now - I did it b/c I was starting school and have online classes and now I am waiting to get it and having to find other ways off getting online b/c I am waiting. I feel so stupid for falling for this crap. Thanks for the info.

11Hi Candy. Try and see if you can return it and ask for your money back. Try and reject the PC when it comes in.
Also, how did you pay? Check, Credit Card?
If you paid with a card you can issue a chargeback on everything.
Goodluck.

20Icalled them on the phone, thinking this was tooo good to be true…I was right. The guy wanted all my financial info before he would answer any questions…Well, he didn’t get it from me…he finally said there was NO interest rate that he knew of. I ask how they could stay in business if they didn’t charge interest, he said that wasn’t his job. I told him I would get my info from the website and that’s how I ended up here…

21Unbelieveable! I tried to ask blue hippo themselves for my money back and all they can offer me is stupid credit through a phone company. What am I gonna do with a phone card? I was making plans to go back to school and step up in life and now I’m being scamed out of thousands. I can’t afford it. I’m poor as it is. How could they? Will somebody who knows the system please help me I’ll do whatever it takes to put these cruel scamers out of business?

24Wow! I was about to get a computer through blue hippo til I happend to see this website…..Thank god I didn’t decide to get one. That’s sad, how can the BBB allow this scam of a company to publish it’s BS on TV and newspapers?
I called the number to find out about the computer etc. But the guy on the phone was trying to rush me, saying that they could use anyone’s banking account didn’t matter who’s…..I knew something was up.
And……Good luck to those trying to get their money back.

25I bought one of these computers from these sleeze buckets and the computer is only worth six hundred dollars. The only reason I went through them is they were promising to help rebuild bad credit they said they would report to the credit bureau, however none of this has came about. They also promised a free plasma television and an all in one printer well you got it that didn’t happen either. I paid them off in December of last year expecting them to keep their promises yet I have been fighting with them ever since even to the point I have contacted the Missouri AttorneyGenerals Office. I just hope to at some point get some satisfaction after spending so much money and mine wasn’t 39.99 a week mine was 42.99 a week.
Thanks for letting me vent hope this helps somebody else not to fall for their lines and I do Believe that we can find a way to stop them if we can get enough of us together to take it public.
Sincerly, Patti

26Well I too got ripped off of my 99.00. I cancelled my order with them and they were trying to give me all of these deals over the phone and i just point blank told them that i did not want their computer. What they told me in the first call was nothing like i heard when I called today to find out why I had not received the paper work. They told me I would have to wait 9 weeks before my computer would ship out. because they had to make sure my payments were building credit with them. i told them this is not what i was told and i cancelled but against their will. They told me i could not have my 99 dollars back and that i would have to use the 99.00 for store credit. Well needless to say if you go on their website there is no place to order things for that price.. I am 73 years old and live on social security. bet it makes them feel good to take advantage of the elderly. but, doesn’t really sound like they really care. Is there a way of sueing these people for what they are doing……
Thanks for listening

29Hi Lois, Im not really sure where you can get a computer with bad or poor credit. I mean, the point of credit is to trust someone that is in good standing, while not trusting those that aren’t in good standing.
Your best bet would be to save a few months and then buy it cash. Computers arent that expensive anymore. You can actually get a decent one for about 200-300 dollars.
Goodluck.

30I too canceled my order after they never sent me my computer and t.v.. I asked for my money, which was over $200.00 + the $99.00, and they told me to go online for store credit at BlueHippo.com. That is when I came across this website. I had no idea there were other people out there as pissed off as I am. I thought I was the only one who wasted my money for nothing. Thank god I cancelled or they would have been still scamming me into further debt. Is there something we can do to get our money back? anyone?

36It breaks my heart to hear all these stories and mine could have been very similar. Yes, I called BlueHippo. But I was one of the “difficult” ones that they finally put a supervisor on the phone with. Oh yeah they promised a GREAT dell…but I was very uneasy with the debit situation and told them that I did not want to authorize any monies being debited out of my account until I had a chance to see the paperwork. Well they assured me that nothing COULD be removed from my account until they had my signature on paperwork and that I would recieve the paperwork immediately. Can you guess what happened next? No paperwork! So I got even more edgy and checked my account and yes indeedy they had taken the $99. Here is what you do….you contact your bank immediately and then you fill out an affidavit saying that you have had an unauthorized debit occur. At the same time you send a certified letter to BlueHippo telling them that you have not signed any agreement and that you want to cancel any and all orders with BlueHippo. My bank returned my money to my account and then turned the affair over to the FEDS to collect. I will do this everytime I get one of those debits. Eventually they will stop trying. Another way to stop this is to just close up your account and start a new one. But send a certified registered letter to Blue Hippo no matter what you do. I also sent a letter to the Maryland Attorney General’s office of consumer protection. Good Luck and good computing.

38I feel bad for those of you that have been taken by BlueHippo. I thought about checking them out so I started my RESEARCH into the company. All I did was type their name into Google and all I could see was info on why I should not Deal with this company. All those who are interested in what to do sholud read the settlement press release on the Maryland Attorney General’s website. as to date, Maryland is the only state to reach a settlement with this company. Just copy the link below and check out the news. it should help alot.

40I have also (unfortunately), been scammed by bluehippo! We ordered a comp. by phone from t.v. advertising, had the $99 deducted, and then cancelled our order after finding out our youngest daughter was terminally ill, and have run into the same run around as everyone else. One question, has anybody thought of filing a class action lawsuit on bluehippo?

usually those types of sites aren’t good either. if you dont have the type of credit needed to purchase from big trusted retailers, the next best option would be to put it on lay-a-way at walmart/target/kmart.

43I am so glad also that i checked out this link, i am actually able to purchase a computer but i do need to repair my credit so i figured why not do this and build my credit back up. woo-hoo!!!! glad i decided to go online and check this out. i rcvd a flier in the mail and these crooks are now trying to get people to buy a hd flat panel tv! i hope others will take a moment to check it out before diving in…..it does sound good when you hear it on the radio but like the saying goes….if it sounds too good to be true - run as fast as you can!!! thanks for the comments, you saved me as well. i bet if all the people they have scammed took a road trip to their “headquarters” and move some furniture….refunds would start to fly. sorry about those of you that were scammed….it is unfortunate because there may actually be a legit company out there but because of the hippo people, the public will frown on this type of thing.

44For anyone trying to purchase a computer and have less than perfect credit. You would be better off renting a computer from one of these rental places. They may charge a little more than what the computer is actualy really worth, but at least you will get it in most cases the same day, and they will maintenence the computer until it is paid in full. They also give you the option of a 60 days same as cash deal where you can pay it off without all of the intrest rates. Let’s be real, I’m sorry that you guys were scammed by this company, but we all know that when your credit is bad, or where there is no credit checking going on, you are going to be charged a higher intrest rate. Oh, and I almost forgot, the majority of those rental places don’t check your credit. I’ve delt with them for years and I’ve never had a problem. I hope this helps.

45I called Bluehippo as well, I didn’t know anything about them, especially this stuff. I thought they were legite like a lot of innocent people did. Well, I decided to cancel my Dell computer, I couldn’t afford it and really didn’t need one, I just ordered it so my kids could have something to learn on and play on. Well, they took out my $99 to, and I didn’t get any paperwork either, and they still took out the deposit, how can they do that without a written authorization? Well, I have emailed them and calledt hem and demanded my money back, I don’t want any store credit from them. She said something about store credit, and I told her NO, I don’t want store credit because I will not be dealing with this company anymore. She said she will talk tot he managers and see what they can do, and I told her, I know what they are going to do, they are going to give me my money back, or I will speak to my lawyer. I was told I was going to get it back anyway and I told her that. This is a joke, and everyone at the company is too. I have 3 beautiful children that I am raising on my own and can’t afford to lose $ 99, as I am sure this is the way a lot of you innocent people feel as well. We have to demand our money back!!!! If we all stick together and all call the customer service line and threaten to call the BBB and the state attorney’s office, they have to budge. Good Luck, I refuse to give up, you can’t either!

48Ahh, I am sorry to see so many people are getting scammed. How do these people live with themselves?
And, their logo is so cute, too! Darn. I am really glad I did a little quick investigation into BlueHippo before I too fell for it.
I have an aging desktop that I actually bought off an informercial. It wasn’t a scam! It was the best technology on the market in it’s day, for a pretty reasonable price, and it has been fantastic. The only thing I have ever had to replace was the power source.
I’ve been seeing this commercial for BlueHippo daily, and it sounds like a great deal. No credit check, only a bank account and a home telephone number needed! Wow. Also, you get a free flat screen TV and a free printer? What a deal! How can it get any better, right?
Wrong. Go to http://www.bluehippo.com and check out their models. They are name brand computers, but most of them are discontinued models, i.e., not current technology. The best desktop they have right now on 9/26/07 that is actually a full system is their Lenovo ThinkCentre M52, a brand I have NEVER heard of. It’s a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 with 1 GB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive, but only a CD burner and a DVD ROM, so not exactly current technology.
It will set you back $27.99 a week. They have some that are better for more money per week, of course. But, this one sounded okay. Doesn’t sound so bad only $30 a week, right.
Wrong again. You have to pay for a full year! And, that’s on top of the $99 first time fee. That comes out to $1554.48! Yikes! Wal-Mart right now has a TOP of the line Dell for less than $800.
And, you don’t even get the computer until you make the first time fee payment and 9 more weekly payments to “build credit” with them! What a scam.
I am very happy to see so many people speaking out and complaints filed against them and to see that there are so many investigations by news media. The BBB is all over them in many states. Good.

51The Blue Hippo advertisement is in effect on FOX 44, Waco, Texas. I was wondering how a company could financially offer what they were at the TV cost. I got on internet and realized it was a scam. A previous comment from Jose in September, on this site suggested someone call the TV station, and I did. I was referred to REVSHARE, which is a company that sells TV air time for FOX. So, what happens is Blue Hippo pays RevShare, RevShare makes money from the TV Station, then it hits the public.
Speaking as an advocate for the public, I explained to FOX 44 what I had seen on TV and found on internet. They replied that if RevShare could be persuaded then FOX would discontinue the advertisements. It’s my feeling that if the TV station and the advertising company are aware of the scam, that makes them as responsible as Blue Hippo.
I called RevShare and was told that they were only aware that there were some consumer problems in the past and that the Better Business Buerue was working with Blue Hippo to correct those problems. I suggested to RevShare that they take a minute to look on internet and they would be more aware of the problem as it really was. I was told by a VP that she in turn would make the CEO aware.
Now, I was never asked for a return address to let me know where all this would go, and it is my suggestion that anyone who has computer connections should do the following.
1. Send a memo about Blue Hippo to all the computer address’ you have and have them send it to everyone they know.
2. Call the TV agency in your location that advertises Blue Hippo and make your voice heard, ask for the advertisment agency they buy from and call them, they all have 1-800 numbers. Take names.
3. Never, ever give a Social Security Number, Bank account number to a stranger over the phone or computer.
4. Make your voices heard, there is strength in numbers.
We the people have many opportunities in the US, use your voice to help others avoid loosing their hard earned money.

52I also ordered a computer from Blue Hippo and after sending then almost $700.00 I was told by them that I missed a payment and then thing started not to add up. And I contacted them and told them I wanted my money back and then I started to get the run around and they told me that I can only get store credit and every time I contacted them I wasn’t getting the answers I wanted. I told them I want to talk to their Supervisor and they said they don’t have one ,so I asked to talk to the head of the company and still got no response.
All I want is all the money I put into it back.
I’m planning on contacting our newpapers and our TV Stations about this.
Please if any one out there cann offer anysuggestions please contact me!
Thanks.

53Thanks! I have been hearing Blue Hippo commercials on a local radio station and thought about calling them. I have a decent computer I am making payments on to Rent-A-Center. Not top of the line, but good enough for me. I am paying $24 wkly for 2 years (no credit check). I thought the overall price was pretty steep and was thinking about returning it and buying one from B.H. I am fairly sure their ad said $15.00 payments which sounded like a much better deal. I am very glad to have found this website before I did the swap. Rent-A-Center does do maintenance, so that is a plus, and I work in the same building so I can drop it off and pick it up easily. I will stick with them until I can buy something outright.
Thanks again

54Same story as the rest…fell for the scam. But, I did get a letter stating I would get refund because of the circumstances of my account. I started to get one, but cancelled my order 24 hours before they were supposed to take the money out. The took the 99 dollars anyway, and I’ve been fighting ever since to get back my money. The letter stated 45 days, and it’s been almost 2 months. The customer service tried to tell me I just got approval 2 days ago, but my letter was dated in August, and states that I was entitled to a refund. Sent faxes every other day, and still no response. Will keep faxing and calling until I get my refund like they promised.

57I just found out that I have been having money taken out of my account since August of this year. A total of $350. or some thing close to that. I had decided in August that I would just go buy one out right. Two days after I called the first time I wanted to cancel my order and they said that was fine and the first fee would be refunded to me. Come to find out I can’t get my money back and I am not using in store credit with them!!!!!!! Very angry. How can they take money without asking first….. WHO CAN HELP!!!!!!! The are ripping people off big time…..

58Wow, Maggie… just, WOW. You didn’t go with Blue Hippo (good decision!) but you DID go with Rent-A-Center? Hello???
$24 x 104 weeks (2 yrs) = $2,496. I have a very nice Sony laptop, connected to a flat-screen 20″ monitor and a color laser printer. STILL came in about $200 less than what you’ll plunk down over 2 years for that POS computer from RAC! Did you fail math class?
I stumbled across this article googling “Blue Hippo” after reading an article about the scam tactics they employ. It’s sleazy as all get out, but you know what? Reading the comments here, a lot of you are just complete fools with money! I feel sympathy for you, but it’s the sort of sympathy generally reserved for the mentally impaired.

59Maybe if you would have read their info!!!!! Then you can’t really judge someone like that. This method was to help people that don’t have good credit in the first place. So if you were so smart maybe then you would know all the facts. Everyone knows that you have to sometimes pay more in the end when you don’t have good credit. REbuild your credit so they say!!!!!!! Read all the info first.

60Cheyenne, do you really think that this method was created “to help people that don’t have good credit in the first place”? ROTFL!
Let me guess, you think that “tote the note” car dealerships are there to help the poor get to and from work, right? And that payday loan shops are meant to give loans to folks that can’t qualify at the bank?
Oh, That’s priceless (literally!) The local con men must just love you.
Rent to own, Blue Hippo, JD Byrider dealerships, and all the other scumbags were not started to help anyone. They exist to exploit people that don’t have good credit. Savagely.

62i should’ve told myself “it’s too good too be true” and researched it before investing. i cancelled my order leaving me with about $300 in their hands, no written agreement, no refund, but i can use it towards their in-store products, which i have to go online for this!? Using my families computer. All they have are computer stuff and stupid calling cards. U CRAZY!?! my only solution is taking it to local TV stations to help me. long and exhausting, but worth my time.

63Hello Everyone, I just read most of the posts here about Blue Hippo and it made me sick. I have a few questions/comments:
(1) If you have bad credit it simply means that you have previously not paid a debt– so it is so Obvious that anyone that would give you a “loan” or “rent” you something is going to want a higher rate of return than what they would if you had perfect credit. This means that it shoul dbe expected that businesses are here to earn a profit and you should not be angry about this.
(2) It is so obvious that Blue Hippo Inc. are a bunch of losers and I want you to know that I am not siding with them in any way, shape, or form. It is just so amazing to me that nobody seems to take into account that they are a business and will be trying to earn a profit.
(3) Anyone who doesn’t sign a contract either electronically (via telephone or email) and has money taken out of their account needs to contact the fraud division of their bank and fill out the necessary forms to have their money replaced and have the FEDS track down the peretrators. It is a FELONY to take money from someone bank account without written permission AND in some states this could be considered a “form” of identity theft.
(4) My question is: I was wondering what everyone thought of a new business idea where the company “rents” you the computer for 52 weeks (of course only after you actually sign a contract), and the company actually follows through with shipping you the computer in the tenth week like they promise too…..I have a friend that owns a legitimate and licensed Computer IT company where he builds custom computers for his clients. Does anyone believe that an honest company who will provide a “rent to own” computer with prices that are a little lower than Blue Hippo and no bullshit “free” items that they never send you, would be a good idea? Please let me know what you think? My idea would be to simply provide great customer service, a no non-sense warranty, and a price that is fair considering you to take into account that a lot of clients with bad credit actually don’t pay and you have to factor this into the cost of doing business (it costs money to chase people down for the payments, time, etc). Anyway, let me know what you think?

64Thank You Cheyenne. I thought Mica was a bit out of line. I did say I knew I paid too much. My AAS is in math, so no, I did not fail math. I went with RAC because there is no credit check and no money down. If I had $2000 to put on a computer, I would have gone elsewhere. But I didn’t. I am working on my BA and need a dependable computer, and RAC does repairs. It works for me.

66Sorry, I can’t support going to RAC either.. what you’re paying for the first month or two would have bought you a second-hand PC from eBay, the flea market, or Craigslist. Or better yet, tell everyone you know you’re looking for a used computer, it’s a great way to pick up a free computer that someone else has hanging around. Folks in some towns have a real hassle getting their computers taken away by the garbage men, or keep an old one around “just in case”. Hey, I have a few hanging around my house at any given time, and I don’t even ask for them!
The ugly truth is, a second-hand (third? fourth?) is what you’re getting from RAC, anyway. I don’t have $2,000 to buy a computer now, is the complaint some folks give. Um, my top of the line laptop & 21″ monitor came in at less than that, a LOT less. And if someone’s selling you a PC for $2K, they’re complete scum, get out of there. What you’re looking for, can be had for $399 NEW, and under $200 used. With monitor.
BUT you have $2,000 or more - way more - to slowly bleed away with weekly payments to RAC or to Blue Hippo? For a pile of crap?
Ask around to find a free/cheap one, go to yard sales, flea markets, eBay, Craigslist. Swallow your pride. Admit you want a cheap computer, and you’ll find it pretty quickly! Also ask around for printers, scanners, whatever… folks have them hanging around gathering dust! I’ve given away tons of stuff to loving homes, as well as having created PCs using parts from other PCs that died on me (sorry, some things like power supplies and motherboards are too expensive to replace!)
I feel very, very sorry, for the people on this board, they’ve really been taken advantage of. But I think it’s very important that folks like me with a little more experience try to share the knowledge, and fight consumer ignorance that allows scumbags like Blue Hippo, RAC and the local Best Buy’s finance division to flourish!

67Ya know, I think Mica kinda has a point! Truth is, there are a lot of places to get computers for well under $500 (or like mentioned before, ask around and get someone’s hand-me-down model). People replace computers like crazy these days, and have old ones hanging out in their basement or spare room.
Used computers these days have way more processing power, storage space, etc than the common customer could exceed (students, web surfers, home office). It ain’t like the old days when computers were rendered obsolete every year. You’re just not getting that new-computer smell, and you can’t hang out in Sbux with your latest VAIO/Mac notebook, showing off how cool you are to all the other hipsters. (No big loss there!)
But if you must do new, I saw new computers going for $299 in Costco and Best Buy, the numbers people are throwing around here are ridiculous. Nobody should pay this! I don’t care if it’s in easy installments either! It’ll take 3-4 months to get a PC from blue Hippo anyway. Take the $160/month, put it under a mattress, you’ll have the cash for new in 2 months, long before Blue Hippo scum even THINK about maybe sending you a computer.
It’s not surprising this happens, there’s a lot of ignorance and fear spread over the issue of technology, and it only serves those who seek to scam us. Over the years, I’ve helped a lot of people fix their “dead” computers, very often it’s a matter of reinstalling the Windows operating system, replacing a cable, or some other cheap/free procedure. The really scary thing is how many of these folks were ready to buy a new one (or previously did!) because of these types of issues! They could have just fixed the issue, or had their neighbor’s geeky kid fix it for them.
I found myself doing my best to re-educate them as consumers, that a computer is not a toaster, or a TV, it’s not MEANT to be thrown out when there’s a problem. It’s one of the few consumer electronics that’s very easy to fix yourself, often for free.
I shudder to think how many Blue Hippo customers actually HAD computers already, that were actually still perfectly operable, but just needed to reformat the hard drive, or replace a keyboard, or run a virus scan, or something else that would have prevented this financial buggery!

68I´m a former employee for a third party company that does customer service for blue hippo, Blue Hippo funding is nothing but a corrupt company thats scams vulnerable consumers, mostly african american woman that have no knowledge of computers. I have seen people pay more then $2,000 dollars for a computer thats not even worth $200. But the customers service representatives are also victims of this scam, many have good intentions for the customers but are forced to lie or improvise excuses because of the irresponsiblity of the “managers”, who are never seen or heard of. whenever a problem occurs, like the fact that somone has not recieved their order, the problem is reported to the mangers via email, but we never recieved a responce on time or the responce is just a dull answer like,.. order will be sent shortly. and you can forget about getting any refund back, but people need to realize that the customer service reps are just following orders, they are not actual employees of blue hippo and have nothing to do with its deceitful policies, arguing with them is just a waste of time and may only make the situation worst. if anyone has fallen into the trap of blue hippo they should not even call at all and just get a lawyer immidiately. If anyone would like more information concerning the fraudulent practices of blue hippo and the Real location of the its call centers you can e-mail at

71I am SO MAD at Blue Hippo!! They do not answer any questions. They took the $99 from us, without us signing any paperwork, then said it would take 7-10 business days for someone to get back to me! I don’t want their stupid store credit either. I called the local Seattle News station and reported them. Anyone else who has been taken by Blue Hippo should contact their local news and get the word the word out there.

72I to would like to throw my hat in the ring about the unfair practice of bluehippo. All I would like to know is when and where is the class action lawsuit going to be set up against blue hippo so again I can throw my hat in the ring. I deserve my $99.00 back and not a store credit to purchase computer software thru bluehippo! I am very sorry to hear of those that gave bluehippo more than what I did, we all deserve our money back.

73Haven’t any of you heard that if you can’t pay for it in cash, then you don’t need it?? If it seems to good to be true then it probably is?? You can get a better computer off of freecycle and at least it would be free if it messes up. If your credit is destroyed it’s your own fault and your in here griping b/c your getting ripped off? Well how do you think the companies feel that you didn’t pay to give you bad credit in the first place?? Oh and FYI, rent a centers have their own little secret credit reports. And bad marks on it for returning merchandise/repossed merchandise can keep you from getting a payday loan. They are all tied together.

80I’ve seen many people scammed by this particular company. I’m here to offer some remedy.
1. Call your State’s Attorney General Consumer Protection Division and file a formal complaint.
2. If paid for by credit card, call your credit card company and dispute any charges you can. Failure to deliver is the reason.
3. Stay on the BBB or any other consumer-friendly org. that can assist with getting the word out about this and other potentially harmful scams and fraud.
But most of all, be smart, keep a level head and DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!!!

Two times now ive called then at this point. i recieved no paperwork or confirmation from them at any point in time . i thought they cancelled, they didnt they cleaned out my account in the month november i just got my summary from the bank i, they overdrew me. i called again today to find out what they were doing stealing money from my bank account when they were have supposed to have cancelled it? robbery pure and simple, thief,s i was called a liar by a supervisor that i never called to cancel, that is a lie my wife seen me call and heard my anger with them. he also siad i couldnt prove it , he was rite. the phone company told 800 #no. wont register on my summary.screwed again! so there you are a lesson learned. they are really evil wicked peopleat SCREW HIPPO.COM merry christmas to all of you who have been takin pray for them for it is a warm place that theyb are going to! please excuse my typing im upset! 82Wow, from the horrible spelling & grammar, the run-on sentences, and abuse of all-caps and exclamation points, I can see that the BlueHippo victims here are just poor mentally challenged folks that can easily be duped. From what I’m seeing here, they sound just dumb enough to fall for anything!

83I agree with whatever^^ You people are fools. Even If you give them your account info, all you have to do is call your bank and tell them whats up or just say you never authorized the tranaction(s). Then they will stop it from happening and get any money lost, back.
To Bumpy:
December 17th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
84Hey Bumpy… just so you know, Blue Hippo is REQUIRED to record ALL their phone calls. So if they tell you they have no record of you calling to cancel, contact the coorporate office in Baltimore, MD and tell them to search for this phone call.
I guaruntee you that they can find the record of your sales contract!
Also, for anyone arguing that they “never sent you the paperwork”, when you call them you are REQUIRED to sign a verbal contract (this is the part at the end where you say OK half a dozen times). That paperwork they ship you is a COPY of your verbal contract, along with your shipping information. However, once you say OK the required number of times and type in your electronic PIN number, the deal is finalized… that contract they send you in more or less legally worthless.
If you got cold feet, check to see if your state honors verbal contracts… that might be one loop hole to get out of the deal.

I was acutally pulling up there website to contact them when I found this site instead. All I have to say is wow, wish I would have done my homework before entering into this deal. A lesson learned.

87I have heard stories about rent-to-owns. But some people have no choice and get screwed in the end. Most of the time you are paying 6 to 8 times what the item is worth. IN the case of a Dell computer offered at Colortyme Rental is worth about $850 and if you pay it off in 90 days it will cost you about $1450. Take the total 18 months to pay off and you will shell out $3600. Get a part time job and save money and buy a cheap computer at wall mart for $less than $500.

I got my computer within about two months from the day I ordered it and not the 12 weeks they said and I got everything I was told I would get. I have now paid it off and got all the free items. This has helped me on my credit and I have a great Dell Computer and tv and printer. Everyone needs to quit griping and enjoy the fact that you have a new computer and you helped your credit status. It is nice to have a company that will help people with bad credit, otherwise you will still be sitting at home without a computer

91WOW, … Im so glad that when I typed bluehippo.com into my url it brought me to a google page which showed several page like this, full of complaints. I was seriously considering getting a computer from this company. There is no way in hell I would do that now. This page that you are all reading, is not the only one I found full of complaints, however it is the most up-to-date.
I live in Houston TX, and this week Ive seen bluehippo ads on both the radio and tv several times. I suppose they are putting more $ and time into their marketing all the sudden.
Also the person who made the comment about the rent-to-own program, yes I think that is a great deal, and I would be interestead.
For others who are looking for a way to by a computer, just as I am, and BTW I am a student too, try a rent to own store like Aarons or rent a center. They dont have tooo many to choose from, but its a reputable company and you cant be screwed over, they are local, and you get to get the product immediately. Hope this was helpful to someone, I do appreciate this web posting greatly!

93WOW Blue Hippo sucks. I hate companies like this taking advantage of people. But in this day and age everyone has to stop before signing or calling up for anything. Think about how much it really costs and what you’re getting for the money. Try saving for a computer. if you can afford the $99 down and $39 a week you can easily save for a computer after about 3 months. My advice is to open a savings account, do some research and remember the “best things come to those who wait”

95Thank you for your comments on blue hippo. I knew it was too good to be true. Usually any company requiring a ‘checking account’ is a dupe. Once they get your information, the debits never stop. It becomes ACH heaven for them and $39.99 per week is ridiculous.

96Wow - Thank all of you so much. I typed Blue Hippo into google and went straight for the prize. I finally got down to the part where they wanted all this money - some serious inflation for a Dell computer. So I backtracked to google results and saw this site. I hope anyone who is considering buying a 400% mark up on a computer comes here first. THANK YOU!

97I’m glad I read these comments. I just called them, they offered me a “state of the art” digital camera and a $200 gas card. The guy had no clue as to what kind of camera and when I told him I needed to do some comparison shopping he practically hung up me. I guess for a person with no credit nor savings and needs a computer right away it might work out. Except they’ll end up being more poor in the end.
I asked the if they included a router with the laptops and was told me it wasn’t needed. Isn’t a router required when you have only one Internet connection and two computers in the house? I’ve always been told it’s necessary.

99It’s pretty clear Blue Hippo is a predatory operation. I called them out of curiosity and when I said I needed to get my calculator out to do the math it seemed like the guy was surprised.
$99 activation fee(what are they activating?).final cost was about $2200. I’m not sure if taxes are included or not. The guy kept talking about the free camera I would get and a free carrying case. I asked what kind of camera and he said “it is a state of the art camera”. He couldn’t answer any questions about the printer not the camera.
Please, don’t do business with Blue Hippo. They are counting on people who have little or no knowledge of computers , sadly just not too bright or maybe have an illness and not long for the world?

Has anyone actually got their money back? The last time I called, the guy told me they never do refunds…blah blah blah….then a while later, he said “Ok, honestly, some people DO get their money back.” SOOOOOOOO????? How do we go about getting a manager on the phone, or our money back??

This time I threatened the better business bureau. I was told that I had a late payment because they took ouut three payments in one month as it was bi-weekly and last august was three biweekly payments–now according to them I will not receive the printer or the color tv!! Is there anything I can do about this?

105When I see those Blue Hippo Rip off ads I copy the complaints from the BBB and send it to the station broadcasting their ads
And I ask them Why are you advertising them when they are ripping people off???
I will notfy the FCC…maybe those stations are getting a kick back from Blue Hippo or as I call them Boooo Hippo…(Boo and hiss)
I urge anyone who sees their add to copy the compliants and send them to the TV station airing their ads…If they dont stop it goes to the FCC

106Whatever, you obviously do not have a life. Otherwise, you would not waste your time commenting. These people are not here to be graded. You were obviously about to be duped yourself, or else how did you come across this website. Get a life!

107Ya know, it’s a damn shame how some people can comment and judge us. Everybody has a distinct financial situation that let us to take into a SCAM like blue hippo!! We buy into the trust of what is offered and get punked into the BS!! Funny that they are constantly advertising and continue to sucker good people. This is just a small speck that is starting to get bigger. I paid in $698 and never got “shipping” forms. After 4 attempts in faxing and phone calls, i canceled my order and got in store credit. Wow…… Big deal. So i tried to take advantage in a 20″ flat screen monitor that cost $617!!! Whats funny is that they don’t give you the price of it until you order it as in store credit. HMM….. wonder why? So they can shaft you even harder! Maybe if my credit was 400 they would of had it for 350? Yet I’m still waiting for those shipping papers too!! Blue Hippo, what goes around, comes around! Matter of time!!

108So I was considering this blue hippo thing, not because I need a new pc, I already have a great pc that I built myself for less than you can buy any name brand system. I looked into it because I would like my wife to have a pc of her own, and I cannot afford to purchase all of the parts at once. Well anyways, the point of my comment is that you can build a great pc, better than any name brand pc, for less than $700 dollars. I built mine for around $600, and its a top notch, high performance gaming machine. If anyone is serious about getting a nice pc for a great deal, but cannot afford to purchase one from Dell, HP, ect, write me an email, and give me the details of what exactly you are looking for in a pc. Since I run one of the best local pc repair shops in town, I could build a decent pc for a very good price, and not only will you get it before you pay, you will also get a 1 month trial period to decide whether or not its the right pc for you. My name is Jason Pettigrew, and my email is Pedastriol@gmail.com, write me if you have any questions, or interests in my offer. Also as of now, I have a pc already built and ready for shipping, this includes the following.
————————————————————————————
Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows XP Pro SP2 (your choice)
3.0 Ghz dual core pentium D
1Gig of DDR2 667MHZ ram
160Gigs of hard drive space
dual layer DVD/CDR-W drive
Nvidia 8600 GT graphics
17′ lcd monitor
optical laser mouse
logitech keyboard
——————————————————————————–
and this will go for $400

WIKIPEDIA says Blue Hippo is a ripoff…that’s a quote! Lesson to the unwise….Google EVERYTHING! I’m going to Walmart.

110I’ve been scammed by these sleazy folks myself! I waited 9 months for them to send me a PC that I was unable to use because I need to install more RAM at my own expense. They assured me I’d recieve a PC that would do all sorts of things, when I got it I couldn’t use it, IT JUST FREEZES UP, and I had to make countless calls to find out where it was! Now I’m trying to get an answer as to where my so-called ‘free’ items are. Oh, I paid dearly for everything, NOTHING WAS FREE!
BLUE HIPPO IS A TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!!!!!

112I’ve been waiting for my pc for ,ummm 3 months,(APP.) and still nothing. I’ve e-mailed them and called but still waiting for those papers to sign. I get where it;s going to be expensive, first it’s a payment plan option, secondly it’s not requiring good credit. I think your not going to be able to sue them. Remember when you were on the phone and you had to do a verbal athorization, that’s all you needed. So now were pretty much fu(ked. Unless they had undisclosed hidden fees or there is enough complaints to go through the red tape and find a loop hole. I’m not sure what to do. Continue allowing them to take money? hope to get my pc soon. I don’t know.

114I guess I was a dummy as well for getting into BLUE HIPPO I ordered after mine crashed, I waited a week 4 my papers to come never did, so I went to the library and printed the contract. When I saw there outrageous program I quickly got them on the phone and cancelled my purchase low and behold (HA HA) they gave me credit for my 99.00 down payment only thing is when you go to their website there is nothing to buy only to purchase a computer with no credit check that the price somehow gets to be rediculous. I think we should get a petition and sue there fat BLUE HIPPO ASSES.

116Be wary of the Blue Hippo
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007
The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be wary of advertisements from Blue Hippo, a Maryland firm, that advertises that low-income and poor credit consumers can get a new computer through them.
The BBB has logged more than 1,400 complaints against Blue Hippo over the last three years. Most of the complaints have to do with high-pressure sales practices, non-delivery of promised merchandise, and unwillingness to provide a refund or exchange. The Federal Trade Commission also has more than 8,000 pages of consumer complaints against the company.

117LOL!!! My bf and i were up late one night while i was 7 mo.s pregnant ansd finishing up school and decided we would like a computer too…..went through the whole shebang of getting f*#@% without any lube with 99.00 and two payments. We got paperwork and after doing the math and reading the fine print we screamed STOP……. but they took another payment anyhow….we had to stop our account and call 15 times to about 5 different #’s only to be told …whadayaknow…no manager to help….finally we were able to track down a # that functioned to cancel…but no refund!!!! Store credit bullshit….now we have a computer..I used my tax money at Best Buy…and i was looking up BlueHippo when I checked this out first. Seriously there should be a class action suit…but we all obviously have bad credit and meager incomes so who can afford the lawyer? Erin Brokovich? Worth looking into a pro bono suit.

118I am fortunate to have been leary of this company’s claim of a computer without credit, but REQUIRING a checking account. These companies assume that because our credit is wrecked that we don’t have common sense. Those of us who did deal with them weren’t stupid but took advantage of what appeared to be legit. As long as there are companies out there willing to deal with high-risk consumers, there will be the scam artists. It might be beter to rent a computer via Rent a Center. I have dealt with them before, and although the merchandise is overpriced, I didn’t have to mortgage my checking account to have decent customer service.
