AT&T wants to snitch and spy for other companies on data that you transmit through their network. They will start blocking any packets that they see as ‘piracy’. Why now ATT? Why not 2 years ago. More importantly, why do it at all? Encryption will bypass anything you put in place. You will never be able to stop users from downloading what they want. Spying for the RIAA/MPAA and the likes doesn’t give you any credibility.

AT&T bully

What it does give you is less subscribers. I had the AT&T DSL for about a year and half. It was good for what it was. I was never told i couldn’t download that episode that I happened to miss that evening. I dont support piracy, but sometimes people miss an episode and just catch it on streaming sites. Trying to stop users from sharing what they want to is like trying to stop a freight train with your go kart.

The San Antonio-based company started working last week with studios and record companies to develop anti-piracy technology that would target the most frequent offenders, said James W. Cicconi, an AT&T senior vice president.
The nation’s largest telephone and Internet service provider also operates the biggest cross-country system for handling Internet traffic for its customers and those of other providers.
As AT&T has begun selling pay-television services, the company has realized that its interests are more closely aligned with Hollywood, Cicconi said in an interview Tuesday. The company’s top leaders recently decided to help Hollywood protect the digital copyrights to that content.
“We do recognize that a lot of our future business depends on exciting and interesting content,” he said.
