When playing video games, the last thing that comes in to your mind is your job that you will be returning to on Monday morning. Nothing is farther from your mind than that beast you call work. So how is your job similar to the video games that you play?
5. Repetition is boring. Whether you’re at your job filing the same damn paperwork 100 times a day, or playing the same damn level on any video game, repetition is boring. It bores us because by its nature, it is just boring. Nobody likes doing the same thing over and over again. Even if it is doing something you like. Here are the five best ways your video game should remind you of the job that is waiting for you at the end of the weekend.
4. Becoming better. After some experience, you get better at your job, you get more responsibilities and your paycheck increases. Same thing happens in a video game. And while you might not get extra pay, you get better at what you are doing, whether its leveling up your gay elf character, or just faster reflexes in counter-strike.
3. The grind. Everything takes preparation. Sometimes its fun, most of the time its not. Sometimes you need to spend days to prepare for that new product launch. In video games, preparation is the key to success. You need to prepare for that assault on your opponents base, or you need to level up your gay elf character before attempting to take on that huge ape that looks like Micheal Jackson. Preparation is key to your success.
2. New is exciting. When a new project begins at work, excitement is in the air. You have so many ideas that you want to try out, so many things do. Very exciting times. “Holy shit I just found a new weapon!”. When something new is introduced to the game whether it be a new weapon, item, or just a new section of the city (ala Grand Theft Auto), excitement builds. So much to explore, so many cool new things to do.
1. The payoff. Man it feels good to get that paycheck at the end of the week. Even if you didn’t earn it, it still feels good. Everything you do at work, in a video game, or in life, you do for a payoff. You do it because you know it will be worth it at the end of the day.
